Airboat operators cited after collision

Two airboat operators were given citations after their boats collided, throwing tourists aboard one of the vessels into the water, officials said Tuesday.

A family of four from East Bernard, Texas was aboard one of the boats with a tour guide Sunday afternoon when at a boat ramp at mile marker 35 on Alligator Alley.

The mother and father went into the water. The mother was hospitalized with a leg injury. No one else was injured.

Both vessels were 2016 homemade airboats, wildlife officials said.

Brian Cullen, 28, operated an airboat out of Hollywood, while Jose Martinez, 50, piloted the other vessel out of Florida City, said Carol Lyn Parrish, a spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Both Cullen and Martinez were issued boating citations, Parrish said. The investigation continues.
