Alerted that his little sister, a runaway teen, was being advertised for sex on , a man arranged a “date” which ultimately led to the arrest of a Miami man on sex charges.
Stanley Martin, 28, had sex with the 14-year-old girl and then used the internet site to advertise her services at a cost of $150 per hour, according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Martin is facing four counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a child between 12 and 16.
According to the police report, the teen girl began communicating with Martin after she ran away from the Covenant House, a homeless shelter for kids and teens.
Martin picked up the 14-year-old and brought her to his house and a hotel in Deerfield Beach, where he had sex with her four times, the report says.
The girl “did not want to have sexual intercourse with Martin but felt she did not have a choice,” the report says. She was afraid of Martin because of “previous threats of physical violence.”
Martin posted photos of the teen and an ad for escort services on Backpage, investigators said.
When relatives told the teen’s brother that his sister “was possibly being advertised on Backpage,” he used the ad’s listed phone number to arrange a date, the report said.
The girl was dropped off by Martin who fled when her brother tried to confront him.
Deputies were able to locate Martin by tracing multiple business and cellphone numbers.
Martin, who has also lived in and Fort Lauderdale has a lengthy criminal record. He was arrested Aug. 2 and is being held without bond because of previous arrests.
It’s not clear if Martin will face additional charges related to prostitution or human trafficking.
A spokesman for the State Attorney’s Office said Thursday that prosecutors are still reviewing Martin’s case.
