A person died after resisting efforts to take them into custody Saturday, Fort Lauderdale police said.
Officers were called at about 4:30 p.m. after reports of the unidentified person acting strangely in the middle of traffic just outside Carter Park on West Sunrise Boulevard.
Police said the person was putting themself and others in danger, and tried to place the individual in custody under the Baker Act. During the struggle, officers used pepper spray.
The individual was transported to Broward General Medical Center where they were pronounced dead, police said.
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating.
