is now carding customers, offering cheap cellular service for seniors with a new offer for two lines of unlimited data for $60 a month.
The new T-Mobile ONE Unlimited 55+ plan, for those aged 55 and over, kicks off Aug. 9 and includes taxes and fees when using Autopay, according to a Monday . One line is $50 a month.
The new plan is "such a sweet deal that we’re checking IDs!," goes the release.
The new deal offers more than a 50 percent savings on service for seniors. Normally, one regular line with unlimited data on T-Mobile ONE costs $70 a month, which includes fees and taxes.
The No. 3 carrier’s mobile service includes no-contract unlimited talk, text (including to Mexico and Canada) and unlimited 4G LTE data, mobile hotpot and other benefits. Customers must opt in to the new plan to get the savings.
The scrappy company’s typically cheeky press release also mocks competitors No. 1 Verizon and No. 2 AT&T.
"For years, the carriers have been patronizing the generation that invented wireless," said CEO and President John Legere in the release. "Today, the Un-carrier ends this ridiculousness with T-Mobile ONE Unlimited 55+ — an offer that recognizes how Boomers and beyond actually use their smartphones!"
Earlier this year, and started offering unlimited data plans for $180 a month for four lines. and Sprint also announced improvements to their unlimited plans. The new plans, which started a price war, are now clogging networks and slowing speeds, according to a report by . The August report compared 3G and 4G performance of the four largest mobile operators.
T-Mobile’s new senior plan also takes aim at Consumer Cellular, Ting Mobile and other wireless carriers that cater to senior citizens who usually don’t consume much data. Those carrier offer monthly service for about $25 a month.
