A truck loaded with construction materials and debris flipped on its side and lost its load Tuesday morning bringing busy Sample Road to a halt at the entrance ramp to Florida’s Turnpike.
The 18-wheeler with an open truck bed fell onto its side near road’s median in the eastbound lanes about 8: 45 a.m., sending its contents across both the east and westbound lanes of Sample Road.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, but the incident snarled several major traffic routes.
Sample Road remains closed in both directions and turnpike traffic trying to exit at Sample Road is snarled as well.
The driver of the truck, Cesar Lopez, said he thinks the contents of the trailer shifted as he was trying to make a turn on Sample Road.
Crews from Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, the Broward Sheriff’s Office, and a regional hazardous materials crew from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue have all been at the scene for cleanup and traffic control.
