Woman critically hurt in shooting, Boynton Beach police say

A 32-year-old woman was critically wounded after being shot multiple times during an apparent robbery, police said Monday.

Police were called to the 400 block of Northeast 11 Avenue shortly after 11:30 p.m. Sunday and found the woman, Melissa Lavell, on the ground with several gunshot wounds, according to police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater.

The neighborhood where the shooting happened is near Federal Highway and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Lavell told police that someone tried to rob her. She was able to provide investigators with the description of man wearing a white tank top and basketball shorts.

Lavell was taken to Delray Medical Center where her condition is critical but stable, according to police.

Boynton Beach police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call detectives at or Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at, anonymously.
